Identity

Identity is a fusion piece that tells the story of our heritage and who we are as a people. One side symbolises our culture- our Fijian Indian roots of strength and courage which are shown through the Pasifika pattern woven through the saffron background.

The other and more profound side of the painting symbolises the great importance of our faith- Hasbi Allah wa ni’mal wakeel, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs”. By having a strong relationship with Allah SWT and having unhindered faith in the Almighty, inshallah we can accomplish all that we put our hearts and mind too.

Which links back the centre strip of gold. The Gold leaf ascending up the middle represent the richness of both our culture and religion. It serves as a reminder of the hard work and strong perseverance our ancestors had in order to build a better life for themselves and for their future generations- with the cracks within the gold strip illustrating their struggles during Girmit- whilst simultaneously representing the Sawab (reward) that accrues from the performance of good deeds and piety.
